The Nazis and Jews

Wednesday our main focus was on the time period around World War II. First we walked along Wilhelmstrasse (the street we are living on) and saw several different markers talking about the different Nazi building that once stood and place, they showed where Hitler's  bunker was,  where he committed suicide and other important facts about the area. Afterwards we walked down to the Topographies of   Terror. This location is where the SS Headquarters were and also on the the site is still a section of the Berlin Wall. All that is left of the building is the ruins where the basement once was. The museum on the location talks about the SS, the things they did in other country and what they did in the building.

Our next stop was the Jewish museum in Berlin. The building was designed by Libeskind. When they made plans for the building it was going to be a new part of the Berlin history museum but slow it turned into the Jewish history museum. The building has a very compact design. It is in the shape of a lighting bolt almost. It is also a Star of David turn upwards and unfolded kinda. In the build is voids, empty areas, that no one can do into. The voids are for the Jews that can no longer move on in life because they were murder. There is a room where the floor is cover with 20,000 metal faces. The represents the Jews killed during the war. There is also a garden that represents the Jews that fled  to other countries. The museum itself has great artifacts from all though out history and a great collection of ancient Jewish artifacts.

That night we went to the top of the Reichstag Dome. The Reichstag use to be the government and parliament building in Berlin till it was burn in the 1930s and just left a shell of itself  till the 1960s when it was rebuilt. We are going to have a tour of the building later in the trip. We climb up to the top of the dome and was able to see all of the city and even see all the people watching the soccer game are the gate.

  1. Mr David use to be stationed in Berlin. He said if you get the chance you should take a Rhine boat tour.
